UNITED KINGDOM - DAY 3
We started the day with a traditional English breakfast of bacon, eggs, bake beans and sausages. Finally the weather has warmed slightly to a warm 7 degrees.
We headed to Cardiff Castle where we had a personal tour of the unique castle that hosts three different styles in one area. The 19th century castle was richly decorated with 22 carat gold leaf ceilings, hand painted walls and marble floors. Totally over the top but gorgeous to look at.
After the tour we wondered the grounds and headed into the World War 2 tunnels and bomb shelters. Coming out the other end we were in the original Roman Tower Gate.
We then climbed the extremely steep steps up into the internal Norman castle built to hold Robert, the elder brother of the King, William Rufus, for eight years for trying to invade England and take the crown. To make matters worse they poked out his eyes with two hot pokers.
We boarded the bus and headed towards Pembroke. Along the way Dan entertained us with British history. In Port Talbot, Dan pointed out Richard Burton's house and explained about the other famous actor from Port Talbot, Sir Anthony Hopkins.
We headed into Pembroke where we were catching the ferry across to Ireland. We wondered around Pembroke Castle where Henry VII was born. It is basically a ruin now so we didn't bother going in. After that we boarded the ferry. The trip took 3 hours to cross St George Channel into Ireland. We wondered around above deck as we left port until the chill of the wind forced us back indoors. Pasqual started feeling sick so the trip across was not the most pleasant for him.
We boarded the bus and headed into Ireland which greeted us with rain. We travelled to Waterford where we were staying the night. It was quite late when we arrived and we had dinner and headed to bed.
