AUSTRIA - DAY 6
The day dawned bright and sunny (hooray) and we headed off early for our first stop. We were heading up yet another mountain to snow. We headed out of town to St Leonhard and boarded the cable car which took us up Untersberg Mountain to the summit at 1853 metres.
Snowball fights were the order of the day and we got thoroughly wet with snowballs flying left and right from all directions. The weather was beautiful, blue skies and sunny weather. Angelique starting feeling the cold after sinking up to her bottom in snow so Grandad and I took her back to the cable car station where we removed she soaked shoes and discovered why she was feeling so cold. She had brought half the snow back with her in her shoes. We removed her socks, wrung them out and rubbed her feet until they were no longer bright red. As her socks and shoes were wet, she put Grandad's gloves on her feet to help them warm up. We then enjoyed a hot chocolate while we waited for Pasqual and Ellexis to join us.
Pasqual and Ellexis had decided that they would like to build another snowman so they headed further up the mountain and started. This turned out the be a masterpiece. Venus of the Mountain. They spent ages moulding the snow into her form. I wandered up to find out how it was all going. It was pretty impressive. Ellexis was starting to complain that she could no longer feel her feet so Pasqual finished off his masterpiece and we headed back to the station to warm up.
After leaving the mountain we headed for Hellbrunn, the weekend villa of Markus Sittikus and his trick fountains. With sensations and surprises the archbishop entertained his guests and allowed them to celebrate boisterously here in the pleasure palace. We toured the different areas of the trick fountains and managed to avoid getting too wet. Pasqual got a soaking when he was last out of an area and the water spray started getting lower and lower. The girls, who were wearing their rain coats loved it and ran about happily playing in the spray. The trick fountains were great. All the different automaton were incredible watching them move all through the power of water.
We headed back into Salzburg by bus. Along the way the girls made a new friend. A little English girl was on holiday with her parents and the girls chattered away to her excitedly. We even got her email so the girls can email her at a later date.
Back in Salzburg we cruised up and down the Salzburg River. Boy of boy the current was extremely strong. The cruise was pretty lame, good thing we didn't have to pay for it.
