Florence Area - Rome
This morning we had a walking tour around Florence. We visited Santa Maria Del Fiore Church it is one of the most important Gothic churches in Tuscany built in 1279. It has a marble fascade and is a sight to see with its huge dome. We visited the Florence Bapistry which is renowned for its three sets of artistically important bronze doors with relief sculptures. The south doors were done by Andrea Pisano and the north and east doors by Lorenzo Ghiberti. The east pair of doors were dubbed by Michelangelo "the Gates of Paradise". In the afternoon we travelled south to Rome. After checking into our hotel a few of us headed for the Trevi Fountain. Standing 26.3 metres high and 49.15 metres wide, it is the largest Baroque fountain in the city. A traditional legend holds that if visitors throw a coin into the fountain, they are ensured a return to Rome. We boarded our Bus and Leo took us for a night ride around Rome. We stopped at St Peters Square which was beautifully lit up for a photo stop. Then a group of us walked around the cobbled streets shopping and our final destination was the Trevi Fountain. We loved the atmosphere here and the fountain at night was an amazing sight.
