Hello from tall Luke and medium Donna
Happy Mother's Day Donna's mum and Luke's mum :) we love you xxx
Lay in again, then we headed out to the temples, but as usual one of the locals wanted to chat to us, he said Luke is a tall man and he is a medium man, well I was as tall as this Thai gentleman and so therefore I am a medium woman NOT a small woman :) . The he continued it say how Thai people want to be white like Luke and have fair hair, we were like we want your tan!!!! Anyway the conversation progressed, he's from Chang Mai at the top of Thailand but studied in Bangkok. So he gave us some advice on what to do where to eat and even directions to a different tourist information centre as he said the one we went to yesterday was a fake, none the less we decided we didn't have the time for more tourist information as we had temples to see, tourists to be :) so we left on that note.
As we got to the top of the road it seemed there was some protest going on lots of people in red some on a moving red vehicle and lots of police everywhere ... We have no idea what it was for but it was intriguing.
So we headed to our first temple of the day wat saket and the golden mountain which we went right to the top of it had such tiny steps even I could do two at a time, and there were giant bells all over. The architecture was amazing. There were also lots of large gongs about which me and Luke both had a go on :) and there were Buddhas everywhere so cute. So we went for a break halfway down the stairs on our way out to a cafe and in the entrance were two Buddhas and I said oh look it's me and you to Luke so that's the reason behind the Buddha couple picture :) at the cafe we had passion fruit lollies... Why have I never see these at home....? They were tasty and even are walls which is sold in the uk.
We decided we had enough time to go to another temple as it was only 3pm so we went to wat poh which is a temple behind the grand palace. Wat poh is the temple with the giant golden reclining Buddha which is unbelievable the pictures just don't give it justice it is actually unreal. The grounds at this temple are out of this world it might be the best I've seen yet, I was running about exploring and we took loads of photos, there are so many weird and wonderful statues and buildings with amazing artwork. It took ages for us to get around there were corridors of gold Buddhas just lined up next to each other it was enchanting.
So we needed to start heading back to Skype the parents :) however unbeknown to you guys I had got a blister on my little toe yesterday and it had decided to double into two so we decided we would get a tuk tuk home. So we hollered one over and he said okay one drop off, so we assumed this meant one drop to the hotel, but as we proceeded we were like one drop at the hotel and he was like no no one stop first and I was like no we are getting out I am not being scammed by the gem shop fiasco. Well that meant we had to walk to my dismay .... But on the plus side one of the blisters popped releasing some pain, so don't worry I'll be okay phew.
We arrived home just in time and had a lovely Skype session tears and all. Then we decided to go for tea, however my hunger had failed me but we still went and the food was okay, the street was less lively tonight.
On our way home we were minding our own business and all of a sudden we heard these loud noises so we continued and out of nowhere came a Chinese style dragon puppet held by men and baby ones held by children and other followers playing symbols (which explains the noise) they were all in matching clothes it looked so much fun I nearly joined them.
Tomorrow we will be heading by bus to Krabi in the south of Thailand so won't be blogging for a couple of days.
Luke
I am happy to report that I have mastered the mosquito net :) after much faffing and a few expletives I finally managed to get it properly up!! I'm still white though so no doubt more Thai people will come up to us tomorrow and point this out...
