Arrived at Paracas Harbour at 10am and boarded our speed boat and headed out to the Ballestos Islands. We saw pelicans, dolphins, sea lions, birds and penguins. There was a distinct smell of the animals. We also saw the peruvian booby bird, Guanay black cormorants, Incan Terns Zarcillos, Red legged cormorant Ghuitas, Humboldt Penguins,
On the way we saw the candelabra which is approximately 595 feet long, and is visible for several miles out to sea. The geoglyph consists of 2-foot-deep trenches carved into the hillside and stones used to mark its edges. Other lines are also carved into the hillside near it. It looked like a large cactus.
Local tradition holds that it represents the lightning rod or staff of a god. A variety of popular myths have arisen: one attributes it to Jose de San Martin; another suggests it is a Masonic symbol and yet another that sailors created it as a sign which they could view at sea for landfall. I reckon the aliens did it..............
The islands were alive with animals, hundreds of birds and sea lions.
After our boat tour we had lunch at a local restuarant which was amazing, then we headed for Lima arriving at around 6pm. Had tea in a local restuarant in the Plaza.
