24th March
Up at 7am and got on a local taxi which is like a tutt tutt and headed to the port to board a boat for our two day tour around the islands of Lake Titicaca. Our guides name was Jose. Lake Titicaca is the worlds highest navigable lake which has a surface area if 8000 sq m and more than 30 islands. As we left Puno Port we navigated our way through the reeds to our first stop, the floating islands of reeds. We walked on one of the islands, Sumary and it was really spongy. We met the islanders and experienced their culture. We dressed up in their clothes and had a lot of fun. We hopped on a reed boat and went to the next island, Quechua. This island had a trout pond, an ATM and eateries. Next stop was Amantani where we had a steep climb to the centre of the village. The views were amazing. We continued to climb and had lunch overlooking Lake Titicaca. Our lunch was delicious and the views breathtaking. After lunch we crossed over the top of the mountain and walked down steep stairs to board our boat again. Next stop was Taquile where we were billoted out to different families for the night. I was with Jan and Brad in a triple room. The room was basic. The mama had prepared a potato soup for us and some rice and vegetables. We were given a hot drink with a locally grown herb in it, tasted like green tea. After we cleaned up we headed up the hill to the plaza to meet everyone and listen to traditional music and dance. Our mama dressed us in traditional clothing.

We were up at 6am and mama had made us pancakes and another herbal drink. After breakfast we boarded our boat and had a three hour journey back to Puno where we boarded our truck and began our journey to Cusco.
Arrived in the evening, checked in and went to the Real McCoy Restuarant for dinner. Early night.
