We took it easy after the epico bus journeys the previous day, after a very hearty brunch we headed off to Angkor Wat with great anticipation in the sweltering afternoon heat. We went straight for the biggie and it didn't disappoint, Angkor Wat is immense. We spent a few hours there then headed to the top of the hill for the sunset. What initially started as a relaxed state of being soon turned into irritation overdrive, droves of Asian tourists rudely went up to some monks just sat there minding their own business and started taking photos (without permission) of them with their massive lenses. It really killed the vibe so we b*****ed off prior to sunset, on the way back to the hostel the sunset turned out to be really good which annoyed us further however it was soon to be redeemed.. The guesthouse staying at is ace and we remembered that it had a sunset terrace, we swiftly headed up and caught a great post-sunset dusk, result! At night headed to the local night market which was both good and cheap and then onto the appropriately named pub street. We rendez-voud in the Angkor What? bar with a friend from Chiang Mai before heading over to the Temple club with its cheesy wedding musique.
Wednesday was all about the sunrise, we woke up far too early and with not enough sleep to head to Angkor Wat. It was worth it however seeing dawn there and instead of seeing the sunrise also we escaped the maddening crowds and headed straight to the Tomb raider temple. It was a great tuk tuk ride over as the roads were pretty much quiet then bar a handful of people there had the temple to ourselves, we left just in time when bus loads of coach trips had arrived. Did other temples after that including Bayon one of my favourites then we raced up a smaller one rocky style which was lots of fun but cream crackered at the summit! Relaxed in the afternoon with a well deserved $1 mojito then watched the final Siam Reap sunset with 50 cent beers! Headed out to a local restaurant called Haven which is a haven for orphaned children giving them employment and learning opportunities. Really enjoyed the food here in Cambodia, best, cheapest food in South East Asia and top notch service to boot, people always serving you with a smile. Had another night out, this time a lot heavier and messier, got in around 4am only to get up a couple of hours later to get the bus to the border then onto Bangkok by sunset.
Friday was a glutton for punishment getting another Thai massage, thought would make my back better but think made it worse ffs! The woman looked like a junkie and clearly clueless. Finally had a bit of time to sort through my pics and transfer them to laptop, felt good looking back on many a good time in the last couple of months. In late afternoon headed down to the Sky Bar, infamous from the Hangover 2, to meet friends. It was really expensive (£10 for a cocktail) for Asian standards (especially after the $1 mojitos in Cambodia!) however its the price had to pay for awesome views and a really good sunset over Bangkok. The reunion with the American couple didn't happen due to Air Asia being useless which was gutted about.
