Hello and welcome to the final blog from the Philippines. We arrive to Dumaguete at 17:30 after a five and a half hour bus journey from Sipalay. We get a trike from the bus terminal and ask him to take us to Harolds mansion, which is where we have been reccomended to stay. We jump on the trike and he agrees a price(overcharges us but we don't know this until the next day). He tells us that he cannot take us the normal route to get there as there is a fiesta on, Jade and I are hesitant to believe him but go with him regardless. Maybe he is telling us the truth as apparently Harolds is fully booked, so we are now getting a real scenic route of Dumaguete... pleasant all the same...Why are always our travelling days the most eventful? As we drive through the city we meet so much traffic; the smoke and fumes fill our mouths, the roads are crammed packed with colourful jeepneys, trikes and taxis with people holding on to every surface .The driver (Francis) is stopping at every hostel/hotel to see if there are vacancies.. to which we are slowly finding out there aren't any. Jade and I are beginning to look anxious... wondering what on earth are we going to do?! Ok so the driver is telling the truth... there are floats and drums banging as part of the carnival. As our driver tries to take us down the route we are meant to be going, we are sent now in completely the wrong direction by a traffic conductor...jeez this is becoming a nightmare. He now says after trying four or five hotels with no chance of accomodation that we should try Harolds, just to make sure. We arrive at harolds after the 30min journey around Dumaguete.Jade runs in to see if there is room at the inn... she comes out with a slight smile on her face and says there is one room and it is a family room at double the original price we want to pay , we don't have much choice and take the room.
Our room is luxurious compared to what we have been used to, with the aircon and t.v, this is just what the doctor ordered after our hot day travelling. We both get freshened up and head straight to the innhouse "coffeeshop" restaurant only to find that some German girls we previously met at Sipalay where staying the night. The menu is great; so much choice at a fraction of the cost of Driftwood village. I go for a 12" pizza with all the trimmings and Jade goes For the "healthier option" of the chefs salad.. I know that Jade is going to have serious food envy, Jades salad arives,Four slivers of ham,and also the luxury of having cheese,to which was put on quite sparingly , Jade enjoyed it none of less. Well my Pizza caused a bit of stir on the table...our new friends who were not going to eat originally, now decided after seeing my gargantuan pizza that they are going to get one .With our food now devoured, we order 2 shakes -mango and a pineapple shake. My pineapple shake now half empty I go to the bar and ask for a shot of rum , she shows me the price 150p which is bout 2pounds ish, the waitress asks me to shake the bottle and I can take it to the table.... that price was for the whole bottle!!! Jade and I could not believe this , so we decided to share the rum with Sabrina, Verena and Kim, we were toasting to allsorts... Good health, Good travels, Killing Danish girls, you name it we toasted it. We were sinking shots at an alarming rate, we were all tipsy and after an hour the rum was no more, also these girls had to be up at 6 to catch a ferry muhaha. So I had one more beer and we got our heads down for the night.
