Surprisingly enough, we got up & decided to move to another part of the island in the hope there might be at least a small beach & a choice of a couple of restaurants in Santa Domingo. So after we'd got a refund for the 2nd night that we'd booked & paid for, we set off. One hour & 2 buses later, we arrived to find the 6 or 7 places to stay fully booked, except an expensive poshish room. So we took it & spoiled ourselves!! There wasn't much of a beach again, with only about 4 foot of grey sand, but at least here they had some restaurants to choose from, with some gorgeous fish dishes. We chilled for the day & wandered around eating & drinking. That evening, there was a huge party going on in the hotel next door with the music filling the air. At about 10pm, I decided we should crash the party, but as Rach was a bit knackered, she wasn't really up for it. As a result, I headed next door on my own, asking one of the 5 policemen outside what the party was for. He didn't speak any English & my Spanish is only just above non-existent. Still, 3 people later, we found someone who told me it was a Fifteenth birthday party & that I was more than welcome to stay & help myself to the free booze & food. Wahey! So I stayed to watch the 9-piece band rock the night away, while the wide age range of very inebriated locals fluidily graced the dancefloor. (I thought I'd better point out that the crowd was a mix of all ages (mainly in their mid-20s & also 40s/50s) before anyone got the wrong impression!). I do think though this is probably going to be the only 15th birthday party in my life that I go to where coppers armed with rifles are walking through the party!! Still, even though I was the ONLY gringo there, everyone just accepted that I was a guest & a couple of very drunk ones even tried having a conversation with me. However when they realised I only spoke English, they mainly just repeated footballers names at me, (one of them for about 20mins whilst spilling his drink everywhere, much to my amusement!). After about 5 or so (large) rum & cokes, it got to midnight, so I headed back & left the revellers (who started drinking & partying at 5pm), to carry on celebrating into the night.
