Much to my excitement we found a place doing pretty much a full English breakfast, so my day of sight-seeing started perfectly. That soon changed when we reached the Cathedral & realised all the places we wanted to visit were closed until 2pm. Whilst waiting we went on a hunt for toiletries & found that men in this country don't use shower gel. Not only that but all the soaps are perfumed. So I'm not sure what men use to wash with, but I'm gonna smell very fragrant! The cathedral was open by the time we got back there. We paid to go up on the roof to look over Leon town & managed to restrain ourselves from ringing the bells whilst up there. The interior was remarkably well looked after with gleaming white walls & arches. This was the best looking church/cathedral that we've seen in Central America, with gorgeous stonework carvings & statues. We did pay to go into the tunnels as well, but they turned out to not really contain anything (including the one we sneakily entered without permission as it was closed!). Our next tourist spot was the 'Museo de Leyendas y Tradiciones'. This was located in an old jail & is quite possibly the weirdest museum I've ever been to. The walls are decorated with murals of old torture methods used previously in the jail, while each room contained numerous scary looking dummies dressed up to look like characters from local & national folk legends. This is one place I'd not recommend unless you want some pretty freaky dreams. We stopped for a break in a cafe & saw older versions of Morgan Freeman & Dennis Haysbert. Very odd, but great food. We strolled back to chill via another church, deciding to leave out the volcano surfing due to it being the same as our sand boarding in Huacachina. We later headed out to what seemed to be the top local restaurant. I was particularly impressed by not just the food in this packed (with young locals) eatery, but also because you could order quarter, half or full bottles of spirits at reasonable prices! So as not to be rude, I decided to partake with just a quarter bottle of rum, which went down very well & lasted until we left at about midnight.
