As our place was doing food, we scoffed down some brekkie & had a quick stroll before catching the same taxi driver as yesterday, who convinced us to use him to drive us to Managua, rather than using the bus. As I'd had a bit of spaz thing this morning, we decided as it was only $10, we'd go for it. It was only halfway there when our driver kept pointing out the volcano that I realised we'd forgotten to do the night tour to see the lava inside the volcano, which was a bit of a shame, as I really wanted to do it. D'oh! Oh well, we'll have to look out for a similar trip in another country. The bus from Managua got us into Leon mid-afternoon & we decided to revert back to our old methods of picking a hostel, so got the taxi driver to drop us at a cafe. Rach stayed there, while I went around about 7 hostels trying to find our best option. Over 50% of them (all the mid-range ones) were full, so we had to opt for a slightly more comfortable family run place. We'd managed to get a map of the town, so thought we'd have a stroll around to get our bearings. We grabbed a very questionable v.late lunch/early dinner in ViaVia (so were happy their hostel had been full) & checked out the rest of town. Just as we got back, the heavens opened & the torrential rain began. Because it continued all evening & into the night without really letting up, we had a chilled evening in the room. The people of Nicaragua must just love noise for some unknown reason. They let fireworks off that sound like loud gunshots on a VERY regular basis (ie. about 10+ times a day, with the earliest starting about 6am!!) Couple this with the sirens & bells notifying you of the time, that echo through the town all day long, & you've got bloody noisy towns. (We've not found out why sirens go off at certain times & just presume it's to do with praying times or something?!)
