January 28, Day 3 - Chobe Park to Maun. It is a very long day to drive to Maun, leaving at 6am. Along the way we see lots of Elephant families - migrating. Botswana does not have the population or topography of the other countries, no villages along the way with children waving and so on. The land is dry and flat and not as lush as elsewhere. Once at Maun, I find it is a very modern city with lots of small airlines as it is the gateway to the Okavango Delta...

Day 2, January 27 - Chobe Park We take an early morning Game drive in the Chobe park. We see many Elephants, Hippo and Giraffes - (which are much different from the Serengeti) water buffalo and antelope and so on - nothing too exciting as this is the rainy season and animals go elsewhere in this huge park. It covers 10,566 sq km of northern Botswana. The elephants number about 120,000 and are very destructive. Culls have been considered but not undertaken. ...

Day 11 plus 2 extra days - Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. January 24-26, 2014 Up early so we can arrive to Vic falls at a decent time. Some of the group has booked a 15 min flight over the fall for 3pm. We arrive at the Zimbabwe border on time, yes! As usual, there is a border surprise - they are trying to prevent the spread of hoof and mouth disease so we have to all bring all our shoes to disinfect them. They apparently did not trust we had brought them all so...

January 26 & 27, Day 1 & 2 - Victoria Falls - Botswana - Kasane We met our new additions to the group after breakfast. We add 2 Irish, Adrienne and Brendan, 2 guys from Montreal, Claude and Jan, 2 Aussies, Sam and Julia and Evelyn from Israel (my roommate), and 2 English, David and Marlis. A very different group as now there are older and younger folks than before. (The English are camping - hats off). Tahiya finds out she is camping and not too happy...
