Malaysia was a blast! There were 11 of us guys from the P & O, and we had to get up extremely early last Saturday to catch our flight. Once we got to our hotel, we simply lived the rock star life. The Hotel Istana was a five star hotel, and one of the nicest in Kuala Lumpur. The first day we wandered around in our swimsuits and bath robes. The currency in Malaysia is called the Ringgit and there are 3 ringgits to one American dollar. Several of the days, we went to Chinatown where there were markets to barter at. It was fun to barter, and I hadn't done it since Mexico. It was similar to Mexico where everybody is begging for your attention. I got a lot of stuff for great prices that I'll show you when I get home in two weeks! During the days, we wandered around some nice malls looking for good deals. There wasn't too much lying out by the pool because we didn't have too much sun. Every day it would start out sunny and then get cloudier as the day progressed. It usually rained for a little bit right around five pm. Each night we went to a cool bar or club. It was really weird being the only white people around. There were a lot of different types of Asians around including Chinese, Malaysian, Pilipino and more. The predominant language spoken was Malay, but English was very prevalent in the area.We made several day trips. One day we went out to the Batu Caves, which is an old Hindu temple carved into a huge cave. The caves were sweet because there were tons of wild monkeys running around. They were little pests who loved to get a hold of people stuff. I watched one monkey steal a coke can from a little girl and drink it. It was tons of fun watching these little guys outside of zoo walls. One day we went up into the Kuala Lumpur Tower, which is basically the same thing as the Sydney Tower. There is a revolving restaurant and an observation deck. The Petronas Towers are the largest twin towers in the world and are connected by a sky bridge about halfway up. The towers were lit up at night and were absolutely spectacular. The city was loud and crazy during the day and kinda sketchy at night. There were several people asking us if we wanted "boom boom" at night, but we stayed clear of that. Haha. Since there were so many cars around, several people had little motor bikes. They had high disregard for any rules of the road and were hilarious to watch. We even invented a game called "hoopty racing" where we placed bets on the bikes that made their way to the front of the car line at stoplights. The trip was filled with many great laughs and a bunch of group bonding, but it would be impossible to try and sum it all up in this blog. I brought my camera, but my battery died right away. I will post pictures on my blog when I take them from others on Facebook! With only two weeks left in Australia I am getting really excited to come home! Finals are going to be horrible because you basically sit down for two hours and write essays, but bring it on because that is the last thing standing in my way of coming home. I'm sure there will be some big shindigs the last week doing the last of everything. I look forward to seeing everybody and sharing some of these great experiences that I have had here in Australia!
