Hey everyone,
Hope all is well in oz land and it is not too cold - but there is lots of rain. There is lots of rain over here but its bloody hot!!
my biggest news ... i am very excited to announce .. i will be gatecrashing a cambodian wedding!!! i am going on behalf of sokhany - the Director of the organisation i am with and i am looking forward to it lots!!! i shall have to practise my cambodian dancing skills!! i tried to introduce some funky australian dancing "trisha" style the other day when the Centre rented a karaoke machine.. but i got laughed at! i am loving the cambodian pop music over here - its so funny! i will bring it back to oz and spread the good stuff.
my next topic ... potato chips!!!
i have been enjoying the food over here - except for one day when i was not feeling well and the sight of rice again with broth and leaves was too myuch for me and i could not eat - sokhany noticed and asked the cook to make potato chips for me with tomota sauce.. so now for breakfast, lunch and dinner.. we have rice and potato chips!!! its so funny but a good example of how welcoming everyone here has been.
i have also been corrupting the locals .. by introducing the concept of red wine!! there is a guy from nepal staying at the centre .. a friend of sokhany's called tulasi (pronounced too lazy hehehe) and he was craving some red wine.. so we brought some to a restaurant, it was the pancake restaurant that i mentioned in my last blog.. the one with the cow intestines. so we asked them to open it for us.. as u do in restaurant.. first they tried to undo the bottle with their hands.. then with a beer bottle opener! it was the first time they have seen a wine botle! eventually we gpt it open and drank it alongside our cow pancakes in a restaurant that is made from thatch straw. so the electricity is attached to straw walls! bet i will never have an experience in australia like that!
anyways i better go
missing u all, hope u r all well
love trish
the two girls from phnom penh uni who are here ona sort of psychology internship have been taking me out on the motobike to show me the local sights. yesterday we got stuck in the mud and fell of the bike and then had to push it out! very funny for anyone who was watching! on sunday they said theyb would take me on a ride to a mountain that is a nice spot to go to appraently so i am looking forward to that.
with my english classes - i was teaching the kids "what food do you like?"and the answers were quite amusing.. i could not work out if they did not understand the question or if they really do like to eat the following; some of the answers were...
i like cat... i like dog.... i like crocodile... i like monkey!! i asked around afterwards and apparently they did understand the question.. people do eat these animals! anyone feeling hungry??
