On my fave ferry route mini cruise to Spain, the start of another adventure.
A hectic four weeks of family, friends curries and fixing up my bike after a lay over of some 2.5 years, yes it needed work., but that’s another story.
So finally packed, fuelled and set off from Duncan’s house in Gloucester in drizzly rain, could have been much worse as during the night it thundered.
Finally starting my ride part of the trip one month later in Santander Spain. After lots of preventative maintenance bike is purring and loving being ridden there is something about the burbling sound of a big twin that I love.
The trip went well under 3 hours, bike ran like a dream cruising at 70 + MPH.
Have to admit it felt strange riding constantly at that speed which I have not done for almost three years, but just like riding a bike fell into the groove.
Stopped at Exeter for a coffee and sarni then kept going to Plymouth where I topped up with fuel and bought 3 litres of water for the ferry trip.
After all the stress of not having an international Covid vaccination certificate and paying 40 quid for a RAT there was no issues with my Aussie certificate (minus the bar code…).
Over 200 bikers on the ferry, lots of questions re where I was going - the off road riding gear, knobbly tyres and neck brace indicated I was going on a serious ride.
The well tried routine of my packed grab bag with overnight gear, locking helmet to the bike, plenty of drinking water - worked like clockwork, well it should I’ve been practising the routine since 2010.
My room was finally ready, so after disinfecting all touch points, showered and a short nap I changed into casuals and headed up to the decks as could hear the engines had started and we were leaving the Port of Plymouth.
After such dull, dreary and damp weather the blue skies opened up as if to farewell pommy land and welcome me to my European Adventure.
Could not resist FB live the departure and unusually I was not first to the bar! Many passengers sunning themselves on deck with their favourite beverage.
As they say when in Rome so found the bar and the queue was all way up the stairs, at least I would be thirsty when I got to the bar, and a nice way of toning down consumption!
