After a hectic mornings ride with Claire I started to think about my departure. As my 24 hour Ferry to UK leaves Bilbao Tuesday at 10.30 am I would need to head to Spain tonight to ensure I got there in time.
I offered to cook dinner - one of my favourites (Paul Newman recipe) mild chilli and cherry tomatoes pasta sauce, with chicken. So went shopping (in more ways than one) and bought the food (and a bottle of brandy for my hosts) and some new Look road cleats which are much cheaper in France.
Obvious that all my gear was not going to fit in and on the bike (especially and Claire and Pat had given me a bottle of red...). Something had to stay behind so the mountain bike shoes that I had bought off Pat were a casualty.
My chicken pasta dish went down very well-Thomas loved it... and even fed the other 3 children that were over playing. As usual made a bucket and a half ...which was good as five children were to be fed...
Left later than planned around 7 pm, made good progress on the toll roads and made San Sabastian by around 9 pm. Little bit of excitement around airport as machine gun toting policemen waved us past the airport exit.
Off the freeway at the town that Pat n Claire had stayed in (they camped on a beach 10 yrs ago) but it had grown and was a bit less attractive now and I also needed fuel so I could make Bilbao & Ferry tomorrow. Dropped into several other camp sites all - "completo"... FULL! b*****, now 'desperado' as past 10 pm.
So went through a mountain village and kept driving until I found a dirt track track off - drove up found a 'relatively' flat piece of ground and pitched my tent. Another wild Camp site, owls are singing to me and a trickling stream is bubbling near my tent. Nice would much rather be here than some over priced, over full camp site...
Tomorrow up early and Bilbao Port bound...and eat big time, Good night...
