On Wednesday am i got the 8am bus to Byron Bay, took about 1hr 45 mins! Checked into Byron Bay Beechouse, where i was in a dorm of 3. Went for a wander down to the beach and around town and sunbathed later in day, followed by a walk along the beach to the lookout, where i watched people surfing and also dolphins swimming very close by, with baby dolphins too, amazing! Also booked my very important first surf lesson for Thurs....Went and sunbathed thurs am, was soo hot and beaches are gorgeous! Then made my way to surf school!! Instructor was called Greg and him and his wife run the school, there were 7 of us in group and we got our sexy wetsuits on and drove down to beach....got our boards and set up for our beach based beg of lesson, to learn basics of surf, wind, tide, safety and of course how to get up on the surfboard!! Then into the water we went, being pushed into the waves by Greg gave us less to think about....found it awkward to start and realised how unfit and weak i am at the mo too!! got up several times aswell as falling off several times and getting hit in the head by the fin, doh! good job im sooo tough!!haha! Had about 2.5hrs in the water and by the end i was absolutley shattered! That evening i could hardly move and the morning after wasnt much better! I was meant to be going whale watching that am but they cancelled as the water was too choppy and its only a little boat! So i decided to go and loosen up by walking around town and booking another surf lesson for that afternoon but with a diff company who go to another beach! Crazy Terry picked me up then we picked up the other 4 girls for the lesson and drove to the beach, Lennox Heads, further along the coast! This guy pretty much lets you get on with it but is all about tough love.....he kept pushing and pushing and pushing!! Did show me a better way that didnt hurt my back so much so that was very useful!! Caught some great waves myself and even tho one girl dropped a surfboard on my foot to start the lesson and my body was aching i kept going for 2 hours...untill the sun came down! We then packed up and got dropped back at our accommodation! Absolutley shattered! Lay on the sofa all night, just chatting to all the randoms who came and went from the lounge room! Checked out the next day as sarah and adam were arriving and i was going to stay with them elsewhere....i wandered around town again, and took in the sights of all the locals who were out and about as it was the wkend! Byron is very much a hippy town and has some interesting styles and characters living there! Met Sarah and Adam and we checked into the motel and then went for fish and chips on the beach, doesnt get better than that!!! In the afternoon we went to the lighthouse and visited the most easterly point of Australia, which was quite a walk, with many steps! By body dosent know whats hit it the past few days!! Gorgeous views and saw more dolphins altho no whales which are meant to be passing by at this time of yr! That evening we went for dinner at the beach hotel, right on the water! Great atmosphere and we had a lovely meal and a few vinos to celebrate my bros 30th bday that day!! The next day we headed home via several diff towns, Mulumbimby (another massive hippy town), Cabarita and Kings Cliff! Great time in Byron, with some very memorable experiences! Back in Brisbane now untill next Friday when im off to New Zealand! Gotta sort out sending stuff home as too much to take with me and may need some warmer clothes for NZ! put a few piccies on facebook for those that are interested!
