We knew the weather wasn't going to be great today, it's been raining all day, so we decided to do something "inside".
We went to the Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Centre. It was really good and we all loved the tour.
We started with face painting. They used the traditional painting they used on themselves and painted each person's face with different colours and designs. Olivier and Philippe did it, I managed to get out of it. J We then moved to the theatre where they told us their Creation Story, they used big screens on the walls and the floor with special effects. They told us about the rainforest and the desert brothers, and how they fought and how the rainbow serpent helped create the land.
We went from there to the Dance Theatre. The performers danced some of their traditional songs, celebration dances and fire making ceremony. It was very well presented with the didgeridoo playing in the background and got the crowd involved in singing with them.
After the dancing, we went through different sessions, the first one being about the didgeridoos; how they are chosen, made and painted, finally how you make the different noises while playing it. He went through the kangaroo, the dingo and the kookaburra. He also showed us the different weapons and spears they have and how they use them.
We had a turn a throwing a boomerang and see the techniques used to see it come back to you. I think Mum won this round! We then tried out spear throwing, not an easy technique but a very clever way to do it. I think Dad won this one!
We unfortunately got evacuated at that time as the fire alarm went off. So we had to wait outside for the firefighters. After 10 minutes, we could go back in and we finished with a traditional Bee dance from the performers.
We had such a great time at the cultural centre.
We finished the day on the camp bikes for hire, we were racing around and trying to drift around the corners when dad was not looking.
