Today was travelling day. We said farewell to Big4 Coconut Resort. We will miss this place, it was great and in itself was a destination. So today we headed north.
Our first stop was Port Douglas. It took us longer than expected as we stopped so many times to either soak in the views or take some shots. It was such a beautiful drive. Port Douglas on the other hand was kind of 'ok'. You often hear about Port Douglas, everyone has, but we don't know what all the fuss is about. We thought Townsville and Cairns were nicer. It is obvious Port Douglas caters to the well to do but as a destination we did not see anything particularly special.
After a look around Port Douglas we continued to our main stop of the day, Mossman Gorge. The gorge is 5kms from Mossman township (which is nothing exciting). The gorge is beautiful with boulders throughout the valley washed by the Mossman River. Further the park is an opportunity to see one of the last low level rainforests and thankfully it is protected. There is plenty to do here. The park is managed by the local indigenous people who offer a bunch of tours, some of which are on restricted indigenous land located within the park. We decided to do the 2.4km walk, much to the disgust of our oldest boy who detests walking! There are lots of opportunities to swim on the walk. We loved the walk through the gorge, the place is beautiful and well worth the effort.
We arrived 4:30pm at our new campsite. This place is not as fancy as Big4 in Cairns but has all the basics and best of all it fronts a beautiful beach. Isabelle and I finished the day watching the boys play on the beach, something they have done since they were very young. Dinner was in town tonight and now we are all sitting back watching MIB 2.
