Didier Moutia's Travels
We rolled into Gap at 1am. Pretty happy to escape the Alpe d'Huez madness and traffic. We found the truck stop we used a few days ago.
We are up at 7am and make an early start back to Marseille. We had some initial fun and games in Gap cleaning our toilet and draining our grey water.
We make good progress despite occasionally taking wrong turns and hit the car hire place at 10:30. Our train back to Paris leaves at 3:40pm and so we were very keen to avoid the 12-2pm southern lunch break.
We have nicknamed the car hire dude "Fabio". Being nice to Fabio paid off for us. We bribed him with two uneaten cans of Cassoulet which he took happily. We had no issues with our returned van and got the deposit back.
At the same time we were returning our vehicle, some South Africans were doing the same. They were charged a $100 euro cleaning fee. Seems the South Africans are so used to maids that they preferred paying $100 euros then clean their own van.
We learnt from our previous mistake and took a taxi this time to the TGV terminal. Soon we were back on the TGV enjoying first class and returning back to Paris.
That night we had a great Couscous meal just around the corner from the hotel.
