Heading north from Reykjavik up to Hofsos to visit the Icelandic Emigration Centre and meet Myles cousin Valgeir. Rainy drive for most of the way...on again off again. Had a nice lunch in Blondos - fresh halibut...mmmm.
Arrived at Hofsos and met Þórhildur - our lovely host at the centre and Kolkous (Bed and Breakfast) we are staying at tonight. Ran into Carol and Brian and had a coffee with them at the restaurant. Centre is fascinating - check it out http://en.hofsos.is
There seems to be a curse on Skulason luggage!! Heather and Margaret arrived this morning without their bags...lost somewhere in Toronto :( We met up with Thor's girls at Kolkous after getting a bit lost - again! We drove on a bumply little road (about 6 km) down the fjord to Kolkous and were amazed with the beauty of this secluded and serene place.
Chris and Brett fished all night from the rocks, while we visited Þórhildur in this magical place. Valgeir has restored this house which just opened. Guests that have stayed here include Vigdís Finnbogadóttir the former Prime Minister of Iceland and and the Canadian ambassador to Iceland. So peaceful here....many sea birds, a beautiful beach NO WIFI - yay!
Random Icelandic people stopped in to visit, and we enjoyed chatting with them about New Iceland. It felt like being at home in the Interlake at a coffee shop, visiting with someone we know :)
