Barkly Homestead was our next scheduled stop and we arrived in time for lunch. After speaking with Tom Mayne (who is now running the Barkly roadhouse/homestead) we decided to continue on, adding Cape Crawford to our itinerary. Here we stayed at the Heartbreak Hotel where the amenities are labelled 'Elvis' and 'Priscilla'.Curiously, there were other amenities labelled 'mangoes' and 'no mangoes'.After some of the dusty locations we have visited, Cape Crawford was a relative oasis.Declan enjoyed having enough green grass to kick a footy around.
We thought the diesel was expensive at Adels Grove where we payed $1.755 per litre but Cape Crawford turned out to be the winner so far seeing us pay $1.98 per litre... ouch!
Daly Waters may well boast being one of; or perhaps the oldest outback NT pub but at some point 'outback' rustic has evolved into 'backpacker' rustic.Despite its being still the original building it has the feel of a contrived Ettamogah Pub.It appears that every visitor to the pub feels compelled to leave something behind; be it foreign currency, student card or even their underwear.Every surrendered piece is displayed somewhere among the multitudes of genuine memorabilia.
