Flew down to Sydney on Hogmany as Santa had got us all tickets to go and see David Guetta on Bondi Beach. Flight was short but flying into Sydney was pretty cool. Right over Botany Bay. We met up with Big Davy who had arrived in Aus the day before. Good to see the man. Still cant believe that he is out here. Never thought he would come when he told us way back in the Counting House that he would see us out here. Wearing his kilt as well, top man. Takes some doing as it was swelteringly hot in Sydney, a nice change to the constant rain that we had been getting in Brisbane. Davy had found a bar selling $3 pints for the celebrations so we decided it was best to stay there till it came time to think about getting out to Bondi. Stopped off on the way for some more beers, a stock up before the gig. By this time the party in Sydney was in full flow. People were dressed up, having a great time. We got to the venue well before 12. Armand Van Helden was supporting and everybody was loving it. He was awesome, played some top tunes and also counted us into the New Year. That was class, fireworks galore though we couldnt see the ones from Harbour Bridge. Have to admit, thought more people would be wishing each other a Happy New Year, like what happens at the street party back home but it didnt really happen. Maybe Aussies just like to celebrate by themselves?.? It was cool being among the 1st people in the world to celebrate the New Year. Remeber watching the fireworks go off round the world back home, well now I was part of those celebrations you see on the telly. Even celebrated it before everyone back in Brisbane!!! (Daylight Savings Time - there behind an hour). Sent a couple of txts back home, dunno if anyone got theirs though. Guetta came on stage at 12.30 and he was immense. Played all of the tunes from his album as well as some older stuff. Was quality, the best thing about his set though was one of the guys on stilts falling on his face. Fair play to the guy he got back up and once his lights had come back on he was raring to go. We met up with some friends from uni that are also out here and went back to theirs for a continuation of the party. It was fine until the old dear downstairs threatened to call the landlord and the girl that rented the house turned off the music. We left and made our way back to the beach. I managed to buy a can of Bru for $6 despite it saying 39p on the side of the can. (the guy in the shop didnt really like the banter I gave him either). We stayed on the beach to watch the first sunrise of 2011. A bit gay I'll admit but it was class. The sun rising out of the water and everbody on the beach going mad. Again cool to think we were amongst the first to see that. Only NZ and the Pacific Islands get to see it before NSW. We headed in to the City Centre and got off the bus down at Circular Quay to see the Bridge and the Opera House. The bridge is a lot bigger in real life but not all that really. Sure its in a cool setting but its no better than the Forth Bridge. The Opera House as well, whilst the design was revolutionary, it has aged and looks a little dirty and almost run down. Walked up to Hyde Park in the city and had a seat there. Its impressive, there is a Cathedral and then at the end of the park is the ANZAC War Memorial which is really impressive. I guess thats me seen all of Sydney then and got my pictures for taking home with me. Na I will go back there and see it in full. Im sure the city has loads to offer and quite looking forward to exploring it, even if the top two attraactions were a bit dissapointing. All that was left was the 15 hour train journey back to Brisbane. Not the comfiest by any stretch of the imagination but due to not having slept since the previous year I was able to get most of the way in a state of slumber (missing out on all of the countryside on the way) NYE in Sydney was class and I am glad that I can say that I have done it. Totally different to standing in the snow on Princes St watching the fireworks mind you. Not quite sure which I like better...maybe the street party in the snow.
