My final blog from the kingdom of wonder as the locals call Cambodia. Our final afternoon in Siem Reapwas spent on board a boat travelling along Tonle Sap ( a large freshwater lake about 10km from the town). It is home to a large community of floating villages -including floating hospital, chapel, school and shops! An amazing sight as we worked our way along. We stopped at one of the floating villages and, from uptop, had a fantastic view out across the lake.
Our final day in Cambodia we spent another 7 hours in a bus travelling to Battambang. Along the way we stopped at a silk factory to see the whole silk making process and then had lunch at a family support centre which helps children whohave suffered sexual abuse.
IN the afternoon we were due to go for a cookery class but that didn't workout so we all went for a motorbike ride in the countryside. We stopped offat various villages to see rice paper being made; fish paste being made and to taste bamboo cake. The bamboo cake is madeof rice, coconut milk, sugar and beans. This mix is placed inside apiece of bamboo and then cooked for hours over the fire. The result is a stodgy, moist cake with a really nice flavour.
Highlight of the bike trip was boarding the bamboo train -think bamboo bedframe sitting on 2 sets of wheels with a motor attached to the frame and then a rug on top to sit on. Off we rattled through amazing scenery, over rackety bridges and past wee villages. The adventure comes when you meet another train -the lightest one is taken apart thus allowing the other to pass and then it is rebuilt and travel continues! A great laugh and we all survived!
Our final meal in the country was at smoking pot -here they served happy soup (complete with as much marijuana as you want!!). Then off to play pooland finally call it a night.
Now we have our final 7 hr trip to Bangkok...
