Vietnam
So it's really hard to keep up with a blog post because any time I'm still I just sleep. We have been super busy, and so I'm making a post about all of Vietnam today. So we started off in Hanoi. Hanoi is absolutely the busiest craziest city I have ever seen. There are scooters everywhere. There are no side walks. You have to walk on the street, and that is terrifying. We went on a city tour, and went to the old district. It has these incredible streets where they specialize in sellling something inconveniently specific (like stores of thread). We later went on a street food tour which was amazing. Everyone eats on these small plastic chairs and tables but it's illegal to on the street, so when the police come by everyone packs up fast and casually stand on the street instead and then redo the chairs once the police leave. We went on a street food walk and ate so many different things! It was so fun! We also had an amazing hostel called B and B. Where there was the nicest Vietnamese man named Tony. We then hung out on a boat and cruised Ha Long bay. Which was really just as stunning as you would imagine, but very dirty. We went to a smaller bay called Kat Ba bay where we stayed in bungalows right on the beach! We had the whole island to ourselves and had a great time. That night everyone watched a movie called The Call together and got too scared to walk back to our bungalows hah. In the morning we returned to Hanoi, said our sad goodbyes to Martha and Anna and we flew to Ho Chi Minh city (Saigon).
HCM city is quite a bit different than Hanoi. There are usually side walks to walk on, but the amount of traffic and bikes was unlike anywhere I have ever seen. In Ho Chi Minh we went to see the war remnants museum that was a really important place. It was a bit one sided but all about the Americans in the Vietnam war. They had some incredibly moving photographs and pieces there. An American veteran donated all of his metals to the museum with a note that said "Dear Vietnam, I am sorry. We were wrong, I am ashamed."
In HCM city we went out one night and everyone pushes to get you in their bar yet it's not busy at all. Pretty strange. From HCM we went to Mui Ne on bus!
Mui Ne is like this tiny surfer town. There's seriously only one street that runs parallel to the beach. It was a nice getaway, and nice to relax by the ocean. Mui Ne has these amazing sand dunes that we went to go see one day and quaded through them which was super fun (and scary)! In Mui Ne I started to get the flu. It hit me really hard on the first day but after that I slowly just keep getting better!
Vietnam in total had amazing food. We loved everything. The pho was to die for!
