The Radweg
I have a few minutes left so I had some things to add. First, I have so many pictures to post but every cafe has its hitch and this one's is that this computer only let me add a few and then it stopped. I don't know why. I'll try another cafe tomorrow maybe.
You know it's funny, for all of the bicycling in Germany there is almost no one doing what I am doing. There are weekenders with small rear bags but the full touring bike is a rarity. I got tired of being stared at a while ago. Now, for a comic mantra I've been trying to think of how to say take a picture it last longer in German. Machen Sie ein Bild. Es dauert länger. Maybe Max can check that but I think it's pretty close.
I've seen very few other Americans. One of the cutest things so far is what the Germans call us. The Amis. Short for Americans, I like it. I think it's funny. While it's tough to generalize about much here are a few things I think I can safely say. Germans love fences, more than us even. Nearly every house is fenced off. They also have whole section of the cities- every plce I've been- sometimes whole city blocks long dedicated to urban gardens. They are peoples' individual lots but are not adjacent to houses. It's very nice. Also, everyone wants exact change. Don't let them see that you have exact change if your trying to save coins for laundry or something. Oh man, they'll take it. There are more Italians here than any other group I find. That makes for a lot of good Italian food. Also, Germans don't sem to know their own geography any better than the Amis do. Germans are well-known to be serious travellers but I think they generally go outside of Germany. Most of the Germans I've met have not heard of the places I've been to. Guess where the hot travel destination is? Croatia. I guess it's great. I met a Swedish couple who were on a motorcycle trip to Croatia. They told me how brave I am. I hear that a lot. I guess tarveling alone by bike is a brave act. I don't know. They should try lying in the woods alone with bears poking around outside the tent. Thanks for reading everyone. Thanks for the emails and support.
