Adventures of a Global Wanderer
Today was another hectic early morning schedule. As they had closed the downtown airport and moved to a new larger facility 40km away on the coast I was to leave early to get there for my 8.15 flight.
I found out trains started from 4am and the last train I could take was the 6.15am which would get me to the airport in time for my flight. I woke at 4am and left the hotel by 5am.
Waiting on the street I didnt see any tuk tuks this early but eventually one came over. I told him I wanted the train station and we agreed to 20,000IDR ($2). He was telling me I could take a bus which was cheaper but I wanted the faster airport train.
When we arrived I could see people inside but the railings were locked. I found another way round to go in. The ticket counters were still locked so I was panicking how I was supposed to buy tickets for the airport train or I would just board without one
The airport train is a separate part of the station and they had their own ticket counter which was open. I got my ticket for the promo price of 60,000IDR ($6) as the train line is still new. .
At check-in I had to pay a departure tax of 75,000IDR ($7.50). Luckily I hadnt exchanged my money yet and still had some left over. I didnt know there was a tax and it was actually more than the train ride here but still half the $15 they wanted at Cebu in the Philippines.
I needed food so got a bread roll topped with chicken curry bits for 12,000IDR ($1.20). I'd also exchanged my 202,000IDR ($20.20) for $24 SGD.
I still had two water bottles left over. I've found in Malaysia and now Indonesia that you dont go thru security until you reach your actual gate.
I tried to finish one of my water bottles and left the other sealed one on the counter where others had left their half used bottles. After a few minutes I noticed my sealed bottle was gone.
I had prebooked a window seat 29F at the back but they gave me 8A at the front, still a window but on the other side. I tried sleeping for a bit and on landing at Singapore I was on the wrong side so didnt see any of the city, just Malaysian marshlands.
