Coffee bay is a very tinny tiny town in the middle of nowhere it is even smaller than enslev :) its like a very south african town with all the little cottages where there aren't even proper supermarkets or restaurants, but its a backpackers paradise. We got to experience real south african life and real south african people who explained to us the way life used to be there, how they had tribes like the zulus and the xhosas and how they didn't have real clothes and the tribes used to be separated by a river and whoever tried to cross it would be taken away by this river which they then named UMTATA RIVER which means take it river.
We stayed at the backpacker called coffee shack. This backpacker organized daily trips and everyday they arranged delicious diners as there was nowhere to buy food to cook ourselves.
At the coffee shack we met loads of backpackers, germans, dutch, americans, australians, swedish etc.
We made loads of friends and had a great time.
We went on a hiking trip were we climbed down cliffs and josh even went cliff jumping. We also had surf lessons and we did really well, after ten minutes we were standing up and surfing, it was great. We got so confident surfing in our lesson that we hired a board and went ourselves, but we got unlucky with the waves so that didn't go so well.
Christmas eve we got fed a massive dinner, lots and lots of free drinks and a loverly dance show by some traditional young south african dancer. They were beautiful. It was a very very different christmas than what we're used to. But it was awesome!
