Saturday may 5th, Liberation Day in Holland and my last day here in Hongkong. Off to town with Francesca, who has the weekend off work. We went to the Star Ferry and crossed the water to Hongkong Island to get to the post office, I am sending the Chinese poster home by mail. That went fast and simple and we headed back to the Kowloon side to go to the Peninsula Hotel to meet a Dutch friend of Francesca's, Patricia. We had tea in this fantastic colonial lobby of the very historical hotel. Very nice atmosphere and good conversation about a wide variety of subjects. Sitting in this building felt as if being thrown 100 years back in time. After that time for dinner already and just before we would jump on the ferry to get to the island, I realised I did not see the daily lightshow 'Symphony of lights' yet. At 8 pm every night lights and lasers will light up the skyline of HK. So we stayed on this side of the water and ate dimmer in the foodcourt of a mall on Canton Road, the Rodeo Drive of HK. Ridiculously large Chanel, Armani, D&G, Gucci stores after one another. Exactly at 8 pm we were at the waterside to witness the lightshow. No crisis here, thinking what kind of electricity bill this will create, every night. But an incredible spectacle, very impressive. Ferry to the HK island and walked around Statue Square, where are still some old Brittish colonial buildings. Then into the Mandarin Oriental, one of the oldest and used to be most expensive hotel in HK. Beautiful lobby, restaurant and shopping galaries with again all the exclusive brands and diamonds.. Not in my budget unfortunately, so after saying bye to Patricia, it is back to the Aquamarine residence and getting ready to leave HK in the morning. Airport bus leaves in front of the door, will catch it around 8am, flight leaves 10:40, to Kalibo, transfering in Manila.
Next blog from the Phillippines then!
