So we were not lucky enough to be in Thailand for the infamous full moon party (although there was a black moon party which practically translates as night) ...........HOWEVER, we were there for the Thai new year..... Songkrat:)
This would have been the perfect time to take pictures but unfortunately it was 'difficult' to use/protect the camera with water being chucked at you at full force!!! Yes, the Thai bring in the new year with the biggest water fight in the world and it was so much fun to be a part of it- there were water guns, hose pipes, moving vehicles with BUCKETS being thrown out ........ Of course it's great when you're sitting in an open taxi.......... So glad we were a part of the tradition:)
Yesterday we crossed the border into Malaysia ( very official procedure naturally but was, and still am super excited)......... Loving the stamps on the passport:) did some lovely sightseeing in the town of Penang which is home to little India (basically green street) and Chinatown. We did a whole lot of sightseeing today:
Temple in little India which had beautiful statues of Ganesh
Mercy temple -a Chinese temple named after a bomb dropped there but did not explode, it is customary to go there and light a candle on every 1st and 15th of the month
The reclining Buddha- (to be honest I'm not really sure of the significance of this but it's a beautiful statue )
Botanical gardens- took a little tram ride here and saw so many monkeys- each one ready to pose - such naturals
Batik factory- saw some amazing designs being made at the actual factory- such intricate details (one of my fav stops)
Went to the chocolate boutique!!! Tried so many different flavours- some yummy (some not so great)
Sesame
Coconut(my fav chocnut ever- actually tastes like coconut water)
Curry
Chilli
Durian
Mint
Ginger
Tiramisu
Coffee
The buildings in Malaysia are all so grand and basically look like castles- from the temples, mosques and house of justice (wow) to the local KFC (yes it was a KFC castle)
And now........... Time to admit I was wrong and MUM was right!!!!! We had this little bet going on before I left about whether I would miss Indian food ( those who know me well know I am not the biggest fan) . Naturally I said I would be fine and would in no way miss it but it was soooooooo good to have naan bread and paneer masala last night at a Malaysian food court (quite similar to the diamond plaza in Kenya) Although I am pretty sure they are all missing Pasta Tuesdays at home too (although dad will never admit it)
Fun fact before I leave you- the party tune in Malaysia is a remix version of 'mera jootha hai Japani' (Bollywood song)
Off to the Cameron highlands today:)))
