Our first few days in Auckland have been a treat! Beautiful weather and friendly people with a walking tour to start! We learned about the Maori/European relationship and treaties...we will need to make a stop as we head to northland to continue our learning! In our walk we were introduced to some unique spots, native trees and the extreme adventure attitude of the locals.
During our first few days we visited and explored Waiheke Island, a definite retirement location as it has a golf course for Frank and a farmers market for me...we will need to start to save our pennies with the average home being 3 million - if you want a beach view!
We visited the war memorial museum on our rainy day...which covered Maori culture and traditions, the travels/evolution of the Polynesian people through the islands/history and memorializes the participation of the New Zealanders in the various wars. It’s a beautiful museum situated on a large lot of land that is a park and garden...oh yeah...it was a volcano a long time ago
