You can’t go to Chile without visiting a winery! Today we made the short metro ride to Concha y Toro winery in the Maipo Valley. The original owner imported vines from France in 1883, and today the winery exports to over a 100 countries. The business is owned by stockholders, with the last surviving member of the original family (over the age of 90yrs.) holding 3% - definitely enough to live comfortably. The tour includes the summer home, a garden of the varietals of Concha y Toro, three tastings, and two cellars...the most impressive being the Casillero del Diablo. It’s the original cellar used by the founder and comes with a legend of the devil himself guarding the best wine of the vineyard, a rumour he spread after he noticed bottles going missing. It was a beautiful day, with a great tour, and an awesome lunch! Tomorrow we fly to Puerto Montt to start our adventure in the Patagonia region!
