15.06.05 Arrived in Penang today after a long bus journey from KL. I was really nervous as I'd heard all these horror stories about how unsafe it is - especially at night & for a girl. I had a quick wander round town but when I got lost I headed back to my room! Unsure of what to do, I popped into the restaurant next door to the hostel. I was lucky enough to get chatting to 'Barry' - an Irish bloke who suggested we check out a bar where he'd met a few locals the night before. It turned out to be a funny night! They had a singer who kept us amused with his weird singing and commentaries inbetween saying things like 'it's all about the jammin''! We popped into a nearby club long enough to hear a Malaysian do a version of the Black Eyed Peas - not that bad actually!!
