Deb's Adventures
I woke this morning early. Karlene and Michael said that most mornings the Kangaroos come right up next to the house. This morning was not one of those mornings. Apparently the rain makes a lot of noise on the metal roof and keeps the animals away. I decided to grab an umbrella and go for a walk. I must have seen 100 kangaroos. It is so hard to capture them on film. I would take one step into a field towards them and they would hop 20 feet further away. I walked for about a mile and turned back towards the house. I looked towards a hill just in time to see about 60 roos hopping across the hill side. It was so surreal it froze me in my tracks.
Originally our plan was to head towards the coast today but it is so beautiful here we decided to stay on another night. Karlene, Ray, Lesley and I drove about a half hour to the town of Berrima and walked around the shops and had lunch. Berrima reminded me of Aspen in a way. It was pretty and the shops had cute stuff but everything I picked up was four times more expensive than it should be. The most interesting thing we saw was an old prison built in 1861 that is still functioning. It had to be the most beautiful correction center I have ever seen.
We got back to Michael and Karlene's around 4pm. The Ozzie’s had their afternoon tea and then we went out for a little walk to see kangaroos. The sun was peeking through the clouds for the first time all day. We had a very pleasant walk and the roos did not disappoint.
Michael is addicted to tv and turns it up incredibly loud. He watches shows that no one else is interested in and refuses to turn it off or turn the volume down. Lesley, Ray and I could not take it anymore so after dinner we went to our little wing and closed the door and hung out in our rooms. Michael did come back and grab us around 10pm and took us outside to show us a wombat. They are massive. I tried to get pictures but they constantly move and we were chasing them around with a giant torch.
