Deb's Adventures
Eric and I decided to take a last minute trip to Mexico. Our original travel plan was to go tour Nashville this week but due to fires and bad weather we changed our plans. WOW....are we glad we did. I checked the Southwest site to see where airfare was still a decent price 4 days out from traveling. I discovered that one of the most reasonably priced places to go was Puerto Vallarta. Thank you SWA for being awesome. On Wednesday we traded two tickets to Nashville in for two tickets to Mexico. I also decided to take an extra day off of work and Eric said he had the perfect place in mind to bring me for my Birthday celebration.
Yesterday morning we boarded our flight to Puerto Vallarta with me still not knowing where our final destination is. Customs agents don't really appreciate when they ask where you are going and you don't know, but Eric managed to keep it a surprise. I rented a car for us for .50 per day, yep 50cents per day. I wasn't sure if the price would hold up when we checked in. Here is the catch, the Mexican government requires Americans to purchase liability insurance from the rental car company. In the end the car was $145 for the 5 days. Still a bargain.
We set out in our little Toyota with me still not knowing our final destination. The roads are crazy and people are crazy but we managed to navigate out of the city and take a leisurely drive North up the coast. Eric got directions from the resort before we left home that went something like this. Go 124 kilometers and turn left at the gas station. Go 2.4 kilometers turn right at the 3 crosses. Bare left and follow the cobblestone road to check in. They also emailed pictures to show him when to turn. They told him they do not have signs and don't ask the locals because they will not know. We managed to find the cobblestone road after only one wrong turn in the jungle. At the end of the road was a man at a card table with a fold up chair and a clip board. We were on the list so we were permitted to enter.
We were greeted at check in by the friendliest staff on the planet. Our Butler Elly took us on a tour of the grounds. Our first stop was the beach bar for our complimentary welcome margarita. We walked down a jungle path and a set of stairs out onto a beautiful beach. I turned around to look at the resort and nearly died. For those of you that are fans of the Bachelor franchise, and I am almost embarrassed to say, that I am. It is my guilty pleasure. I was standing in Paradise. That's right Playa Escondida, made famous by being known as the place where Bachelor in Paradise is filmed. When I finished geeking out we got settled into our room.
We are staying in the Ixchel Penthouse. It is on the beach and it is amazing. We sat on our deck and enjoyed watching the waves crash in. We drank a surprisingly good bottle of Mexican wine and marveled at the beautiful resort we get to spend the next 5 days at. We ventured out for dinner and then we called it a day.
This morning we started our day enjoying a local coffee in our private hot tub on our deck. What a great way to start our first day in Paradise. I can't wait to see what the day brings.
Love and Bubbles, Deb and Eric from Paradise.
