Now into the next part of my journey - New Orleans and tomorrow starts the next tour called The Old South and Florida.
Slight drama checking in at JFK - my luggage was 55 pounds- and the guy made me take some shoes out and put in my carry on, which made that extremely heavy too! Luckily I had posted 20 pounds home the day before, otherwise there would have been an overweight luggage fine.
I am staying at the Sheraton as it is part of the tour. My room has 2 double beds and more floor and bathroom space than the apartment! I was asked on check in if I was happy to have my room serviced every second day as I am here for 4. When I said that was ok, she gave me a $5 drink/meal voucher for being 'green'. Great idea - I should have said I didn't want the room serviced the whole 4 days - and at least that would have gotten me a glass of wine!
So I wandered down Bourbon Street last night and found some nice, and not so nice looking places. It was about 6.30 so not so crowded, but after I had eaten and was leaving about 8, it was starting to get crowded. You are allowed to drink on the streets- walking around with your drink- as long it is in a plastic glass. So, as you can imagine, there are all shapes and sizes of plastic glasses to be seen.
Today I will just be wandering around exploring and keeping out of the shops!
If the photo appears upside down, I am not sure why- I took it in the iPad and it looked ok - but it is the view from my room.
