Spent a couple of days in the beautiful mountain town of Boquette. Decided to climb Volcane Baru on the first night. Luckily, the weather held out for us. Got a taxi to the park entrance at 11.30pm and began the arduous climb which took us from 1700 to 3500 metres asl. Annoyingly, some of it was downhill, which meant more uphill! Got to the top near a smattering of transmitter aerials at 5am. Met up with a Canadian and 2 Spanish lads, who sat out the wait for sun...

Stayed at Lost and Found Hostel just off a mountain road, in the forrest. The views across to Volcano Baru were stunning. Genna fell in love with the caged kinkajou called Rocky. He liked chewing my nose and ears! Did a stunning treasure hunt into the jungle, saw wild monkeys and swam in a river near some remote waterfalls. Solved the treasure hunt so won a bottle of plonk!

Tried to leave the beautiful beach huts but our chariot never materialized at the appointed time. We waited for an hour and a half before being told that a huge truck was blocking the single-track road back to San Juan. Managed to get a 4x4 some of the way, then trekked for an hour (past the big truck!), then a van drove us to the edge of town for free (they felt sorry for us I think). Whizzed through the border a few days ago from Honduras to Nicaragua with the help of TICA bus. Spent 2 relaxing days in Granada before nipping over to a nearby jungle lodge & hanging about in a treehouse for a night. 12 of us squeezed into & onto a land cruiser and visited some pristine natural springs in the forrest and swam. Met a cool bunch of people who were traveling through Central America in a big yellow American school bus. Awoke the next morning...

Arrived in Roatan, an island North of Honduras, after a very nervy flight from the mainland. The 9 in our group found a minivan to take us to the beach resort. Had a few drinks in a beach bar and managed to arrange our accommodation in a beautiful house overlooking the sea for less than $7 each per night. The weather has been awful so not sure if we'll get to do our PADI over the next few days. Made a huge stack of cocktails last night and sang the night away.......
