Sunday 23rd January Makarora to Queenstown via LakeWanaka
Next morning we set off as the sun was rising over the mountains and headed for Queenstown where we will spend the next 3 nights. On route we stopped for a couple of hours in LakeWanaka via Puzzling World where we stopped for a toilet break.Puzzling World is a unique LakeWanaka attraction of holograms, optical illusions and a labyrinth of over 1.5 kilometres of passages.None of us paid to go into the maze but we did all pay a visit to the toilets, just to take photos!!
Lake Wanaka is a peaceful little lakeside town where we spent a couple of hours intending to read but our books lay open and unread on our laps as we watched children and dogs alike chase ducks in the gently lapping waters at the lake shore. There is also a local market here where Ant bartered with the stall owner for some fresh apricots and cherries. Back on the bus we made another couple of stops to take pictures before arriving at the bridge over the KawarauRiver which is the home of bungy jumping. We watched a short film about the guys / company who invented this mad idea and then 5 of our group signed up to jump there and then, including little Sophie!!!!Only one person backed out (won't mention the name as I don't want to embarrass them J).
Once in Queenstown, we stopped at Info and Track to book our activities for the next 2 days before checking into our accommodation.Tonight we are all meeting up for a Fergburger.Fergburger is a Queenstown institution and had been recommended to us by Lucky (our driver on the NorthIsland), as well as Wozza, our current driver. After tucking into the hugest burgers you have ever seen sitting overlooking the lake, Wozza took us on a walk around the harbour to work off some of the calories!!We later found out that Fergburger has an annual turnover of about $4.6 million!!!!
