Wow how quickly did the 11 days in Naples go!! I knew we had been there too long when we walked into the local bookshop where we went for our coffee and they greeted Ant by name!!!!!
Thursday was cool and wet so we went to the cinema to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. There was supposed to be a Christmas event on 5th Avenue on Thursday evening but we assume it was cancelled as it had been raining during the day!!
The weather was back to normal by Friday so went to Sanibel and Captiva Islands (located off the coast of southwest Florida, just west of Fort Myers, Sanibel Island measures roughly 12 miles long and three miles across at its widest. Little sister Captiva Island is approximately four miles long and ½ mile wide) to spend the day on the beach. We tried to go the beach again on Saturday and although the sun was out, there was a cold wind so we ended up abandoning the beach and spending the rest of the afternoon by the pool. Saturday night was the annual Christmas boat parade which we were lucky enough to see from our hotel. There seemed to be a bit of a theme this year as most of the boats seemed to feature Elvis!! (either is music or the King himself). Quite a few people were also watching from their balconies so there was quite a party atmosphere and I actually started to feel Christmassy (yes the Grinch was getting into the Christmas spirit!!).
Sunday was our last day at Naples (and also the last forecasted day of good weather) so I managed to get in 7 hours by the pool (so Ant could watch the football). I had been back in the room 40 minutes when the heavens opened and we had the most torrential downpour I have ever seen.
Unfortunately the rain also brought in the cold front which wasn't so much of a problem on Monday as we spent the day travelling. However, overnight the temperature dropped to an unprecedented 27 degrees (F) here in Orlando with a wind chill that made it feel like 16!! This hasn't stopped us spending the day today (Tuesday) at Universal Studios Islands of Adventure at the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter. For any of you who have read the books or seen the films, it was just like books and films. The pictures in the castle spoke and moved and we took part in a very exciting game of Quidditch.
We are here in Orlando for 12 more days and will be visiting Disney, Seaworld and Universal Studios several more times!!
