I now know that there will be moments on this trip when I do not feel in control! After a great last night in Bangkok and an early morning to bed, I made the train by being on auto pilot all the way from the hostel to the railway station, slept through the alarm, had minimal sleep and made the 8am train by two minutes. The great feeling I had that morning was that I could lounge on the beach for a few days and recover and chill. Good train journey initially through the shanty towns along the line out of Bangkok where people and children just meander on to the lines which appear to be an extension of their kitchens! and then through lush country side of paddy fields and classic views of farmers with their wide brimmed hats bending over tending to their harvests. Got to the station and as I stepped off the train slipped and took my body into a shape I am not sure it has been in before and twang something went in my right thigh, very painful! The good news is that after three days of ice, compression and elevation the leg is feeling much better and you know what it has made me chill and relax in a laying down position on a sun bed on the beach, I do believe that is called fate! My guest house is 5 mins from the beach and a taxi ride away from the centre of town, the beach is long and sandy, the water is warm and refreshing and the ice creams are delicious so all in all perfect. The town has as a centre piece a massive Hilton hotel complex which tells all you need to know, rich very brown elderly Europeans everywhere you go, the only Brits I have met were in an Irish pub as we watched England beat Ireland in the rugby! As always they took it with good spirit! So with leg recovering, a last massage and an afternoon on the beach I am looking forward to the next leg of my travels up through Thailand on the well traveled tourist trail of Ayuthaya, Sukhothai and then Chiang Mai.
