My longest stop so far and it has been revealing in so many ways and well worth the nine hour bus journey from Phnom Pehn. Infamous wonders of this world at The Angkor temples and a week of yoga and meditation at the Hariharalaya retreat near Siem Reap. Now I am not saying that I have found my inner soul or spirit at the retreat but I know that I have learnt some things that will help me in the future and I loved the yoga! I met so many interesting and thriving people at the retreat, great characters all with a great sense of fun, adventure and a quizzical outlook to life that I admired greatly. I was the oldest by quite a few years but like I have found all through my travels, it's never to late to get involved. This place was created by an American guy called Joel and had some great teachers that I learnt so much from, I also did a detox which together with Vegan diet and a rest from high fat food and drink gave my body a chance to recover from my travelling so far, I really enjoyed the retreat. The rest of my time at Siem Reap was spent at the Angkor temples, amazing places, so iconic and enormous in scale and endeavour, I was lucky that the Khmer new year started on the day I went to see Angkor Wat and there was massive celebrations going on, loads of people eating, drinking, family groups all together having picnics and lots of games going on, as I watched and was taking photos they kept dragging me in to play their games and to also be the centre of attraction, tug of war, games involving dancing and singing and catching, it was really good fun, although I think their amusement was at me trying to dance and sing in their Khmer traditional way. I really appreciated that they invited me to help them celebrate and were so friendly and generous. New year is a really important time for the people as it is one of the only times in the year they get an extended holiday and everyone returns to their villages and homes to celebrate with their families, bit like our Christmas. My time here has been a highlight of my trip and the feeling of goose pimples I felt when I first saw Angkor Wat even in 38 degree heat will be something i will remember for always. Now onto see more of Cambodia.
