Back to Rainbow Beach......again!
Om Monday 16th March we caught the bus back to Rainbow beach so we could get out to Fraser Island on Wednesday! And what a difference the sunshine makes!!!! Its birght and pretty and not as boring because you are able to g for walks and relax on the beautiful coloured sands beach!
We pitched out tent again at Pippies and spent the rest of the afternoon down the beach, something we were having withdrawal symptons from, haha! It was nice to see a slightly different beach as the rainbow coloured sands (52 different colours apparently) is so different to anything we've seen.
Rainbow isnt exactly a party place (really) so we watched a dvd in the tv room and then headed back to the tent!
On Tuesday the sun was shining again.....brilliant! Oh yes, Happy Paddy's Day too! Not that we were very interested in it!!! In a city we would have joined in the celebrations but no much was happening in Rainbow Beach...we didnt care....we were off to Fraser Island tomorrow, happy days!
So yes.....we took the 30 min walk to Carlo Sand Blow, a big sand dune (massive infact) that has built up over hundreds of years, over the rainbow sand cliffs and is slowly making its way inland and covering some of the Great Sandy National Park trees and vegetation. When we reached it the sight was incredible......looking one direction you could have been in the sahara and looking east out to the pacific was just as crazy! It was huge and completely isolated! The expanse of the sand and its different colours was also impressive and it just went on forever.
It was names after a crew member on Captain Cooks vessel 'Carlo', pretty much just like everything else in this young country! Cook sailed up and down the coast line naming sights and places after people and places back in UK, sometimes not knowing obviously that there were aboriginal names for many places too.
We took a walk to the cliffs edge down hill and looked both east and west. It ocean was looking good today, completely different to te huge murky crashing waves that were created last week by Hamish.....it was stunning!!!! The big task was walking back up the sand dune.....all good fun!!!
(Mum and Dad Beynon, you would be in your element with some of the walks we've done, Darren is impressed im enjoying them so much, which I am!)
We headed back to our hostel, had a dip in the swimming pool, went back to the beach where Daz enjoyed some good waves for body surfing and then just chilled out at the hostel in the evening. Our Fraser tour was starting in the morning which ment an early night and lots of excitment, on our third attempt we are finally getting out the big sandy island and we cant wait!!!!!
