Ok, so on Monday 5th Jan, Daz and I started our treck across NSW to Adelaide, with a few hours stop in the capital city Canberra! Took 4hrs on the Greyhound bus to get there and then we had about 5 hours to kill before our 17hr bus journey to Adelaide (its not all fun in the sun eh?!)
When we arrived in temperature must of been in dry high 30's, so so hot! Canberra is a ghost town!!!! No people, no cars (well compared to Sydney) and its really small.....we had a quick bite to eat and then caught the bus to Parliament house. Very impressive modern building with Old Parliament Building just down the road. The building sits high on a mini mountain mound with a huge flag flying in the wind! We got to walk around and sit in the houses of parliament and read lots about the history and politcis of Australia. Andy, you may have loved it but to us it was just ok!!!! From the rooftop there were awesome views of the 'tiny city' (practically a small town), the war memorial and Lake Griffin. It was all very pretty but it just felt like a really pointless city and only comes to life when parliament on in the house. We found out 80% of residents work for the governement and they only build the city because it was half way between Sydney and Melbourne and they didnt know who to give Capital status!!
Ahh well it was lovely to go there and see it, but after the hustel n bustle of Sydney we would kind of say we'd never look to venture back to the ghost town!!
We had dinner and drinks in an Irish pub before catching our bus for the long trek to Adelaide...good times! xxx
