First thing we saw when we got off the plane was our next adventure - flights to Antarctica - yes Perth really is that far from anywhere. Got into the apartment around 12:30 last night.
Straight to bed as it was 3:30 Sydney time. Looking forward to a lie in but the 2 hour thunder storm at 6am put pay to the idea. Got up and went for breakfast in the cafe downstairs, basically to get their wifi code. The search for free wifi is never ending. Loped around Freo (as the locals call it). Nice small town with a train station, shops for Yvonne, a beach for David and a street of coffee shops and bars for day or night refreshments. You know the classic image of the Aussie with the wide brimmed hat with corks on strings well we now know where that hat was invented. We've never seen so many flies. Everyone at the beach looked like they have a nervous tick with all the arms waving about. The beach was pretty much empty but we didn't know if this was because it was Monday or all the flies chased them away. Not saying that Western Australia is remote but the local TV station shows butterflies (kids ask your parents), love thy neighbour (parents ask the grandparents) and I love Lucy (see Google). Apartment has a west facing balcony so sat watching the sunset with a bottle of emu beer - not sure how many emu are squeezed for their juice per glass. Signed up for a walking tour tomorrow on 'tight arse Tuesday'; their words, the locals are straight talkers with no sugar coated marketing here.
Out tonight to a beer restaurant called Monk (David's choice). Yvonne has conceded it's the most romantic place they've been in Oz, it has cushions and candles. David's choices normally involve wipe clean benches and Yvonne's choice usually is an Asian place with an unpronounceable menu.
