Our Year of Adventure
We were having a very late breakfast when we asked what time the check out was...in 30 minutes time!! So much for a lazy morning, it was back to the room to pack our bags and get out the room by 10am. We were able to leave our bags and use the hostel up until we would finally leave for the night bus to Huaraz.
After a walk around old town, Calle Pizarro, we found the iSite and managed to get brochures for every part of Peru we intend to visit. Afterwards, we grabbed a bench in the Plaza de Armas to read the brochures. A couple of nice, local tourist information girls came over and told us about the museums that we could visit for free. There was one old colonial building/museum by the plaza so we had a look through it.
To kill time David also had a hair cut... and for being such a good boy he got a chocolate bar as a reward. All for USD1.
It's almost embarrassing to say, but we went to McDonalds for lunch. It was expensive compared to other restaurants but the food was unusually well prepared and tasty compared to Maccas elsewhere in the world. Perhaps because of the high cost they take extra care or maybe they are just genuinely proud of what they serve. They had really good, fast WiFi too so we sat there for few hours to update the blog and check out accommodations further down the line.
We dropped into Cafe de Museo for a snack before heading back to the hostel to collect our bags. It was in a nice old building even if it was a bit pricey for a simple sandwich and a beer.
We shared a taxi with Carlee and Andy to the bus station, our itineraries are remarkably similar at the moment. We were all on the 9.15pm Linea bus to Huaraz. It wasn't quite as fancy as the Ittsa bus we came to Trujillo with, but it was still pretty good to spend a night in. We were given fleece blankets, a pillow and a snack in our semi-cama seats which reclined pretty close to flat.
