Our Year of Adventure
We had planned to spend day at pool but it was cloudy so we just spent time in the room watching television and sorting out some pictures for the blog. By the time we checked out our room at 1pm, the sun finally came out.
We met Andy and Carlee for lunch at Bamboo House, the food was so good and there were more things on the menu that needed to be sampled. The rest of the afternoon was spent by the pool while the sun was out and then a final walk around lagoon at dusk.
To kill some time before taking a taxi for our night bus, we went for a drink on the hotel's terrace. Just after we ordered and before our drinks were served, there was a bit of a rumble and building started to shake. We looked at each other and questioned each other if it was an earthquake. As if to answer the question, the building shook a bit harder and we were grabbing our things to move outside. The barman then came running over to direct us out into the main courtyard where we waited for five minutes and all returned to normal.
Back on the terrace, when the barman served our drinks he told us it's quite common to get a shake in Haucachna but this was quite a big one and longer than normal. Turns out there was a 14.8km deep, 6.8 magnitude earthquake between Ica and Arequipa.
At 8pm we left the hotel for the final time and took a taxi to Ica's bus terminal for our 12 hour overnight journey to Arequipa. We booked Cama seats so hopefully we should be able to sleep ok.
