Our Year of Adventure
After the 9 hour drive, in a cramped little van, from Semuc Champey to Flores we didn't fancy the early start to go to Tikal today. It was just a lazy day starting with a huge breakfast at Dona Goya. David ordered Huevos Rancheros and Maria ordered a more healthy fruit bowl, granola and yogurt option. Before our meal of choice was brought to the table, we were presented with a bowl of something that resembled lumpy wallpaper paste with a bit of cinnamon sprinkled on top. As it turned out, it was a deliciously tasting type of porridge and very filling too. Maria's fruit bowl was exactly that - there was enough fruit, and variety, to feed a family of four. With bottomless coffees, huge meals and time on hands, we eventually rolled out the restaurant over an hour later.
We had a quick walk round Flores island, and it was quick - even walking slowly after a big meal, it only took us about 30 minutes to get round. There's nothing much to Flores apart from a few accommodations & restaurants with views over the lake.
The rest of day was spent in a hammock working out how to get from Flores to Roatan, Honduras and then on to Nicaragua
