Our Year of Adventure
We were back at Galápagos Deli for breakfast, the freshly ground coffee and freshly baked bread were amazing and a great way to start the day.
After breakfast and a second coffee, we took a water taxi to the other side of the harbor to walk to Las Grietas. The water filled canyon was formed by the movement of the lava bed during a volcanic eruption. It's 10m wide and 12m deep, the bottom being filled with a mixture of salt and fresh water that comes from the highlands through a subterranian filtration system.
When we arrived it was packed with dozens of tourists who were splashing around in vain attempts at snorkeling. It seemed like these people were both scared of water and had never snorkeled before.
The water was very clear but also too cold for us to swim. There didn't seem to be many fish in the water either, just a few parrot fish.
There were a few people jumping off the sides of the canyon. It looked like fun but the water was cold enough to decide against joining in.
Back at the hotel, we did some trip planning on the roof terrace before heading out to dinner. It seemed very unadventurous but we were back in Galápagos Deli, this time for pizza. We figured that if they could bake good bread, there was a very good chance they could cook a very good pizza base. And we were correct, the pizza was delicious.
