Our Year of Adventure
The bus was surprisingly comfortable to sleep in even if it was cold. The AC was cranked up so high it felt like minus 15c although with hoodies on and and a 'permantly borrowed' airline blanket thrown over us, we were fine. We had woken a few times through the night but managed to get back to sleep no problem. By dawn we were up in the mountains to the north of Medellin and we were greeted with a nice sunrise.
The views across the mountains and high farmland was stunning. A bit of rain close by even produced a rainbow for us. After 16 hour travel, we finally stopped for a break - we were running late and still had 2 hours to go. An empanada for breakfast almost made up for the delay.
We eventually arrived at 11am and took a taxi to El Poblado with a German guy from our bus. Once again, the driver had no idea where to go and we went round and round the block a few times. Finally, we found the Black Sheep hostel (Kiwi owned again) and checked in. We had to wait a short while until our room was ready but there was free coffee so all good.
After a quick shower we headed out towards Zona Rosa for lunch. Zona Rosa is one of the popular areas in Medellin for restaurants and bars. We had nice pizza in Il Forno and then an affogatto in the Juan Valdez coffee shop.
Back at the hostel, we got talking to some other guests and ended up drinking until midnight.
