Our Year of Adventure
David decided to sleep in this morning while Maria went for an early breakfast at Cassis with Carlee and Andy. The breakfast menu was good - a croissant filled with Philadelphia cheese & smoked salmon, eggs with bacon, orange juice and real coffee; and all that was just for one person.
We needed to get some Argentinian pesos before we head back to Argentina again and were hoping to get a decent exchange rate in Puerto Varas. But there were no Argentinian pesos in town, we walked round all the cambios and it was the same story in every one so we bought some US dollars instead. We should be able to change them in Argentina at the blue rate, the unofficial rate which gives you about 50% more for your money than the official bank rate.
The rest of the day was spent doing the chores of a traveller; blogging, searching for accommodation, writing postcards, backing up the photos to hard disks, paying for our stay and asking for a taxi to be booked for the morning to take us to the airport.
We had a reservation for dinner at La Marca, a great steak restaurant we had eaten in about a week ago. They prided themselves for following the "field to the grill" approach so they probably knew the animals that the meat came from. David decided to try the eye fillet steak this time, cooked 'Inglesa Medio' which is the Chilean equivalent of Medium Rare. Maria stuck with Bife de Chorizo, what she ordered last time, and again we had some devil potatoes to share. And just to be even more unadventurous, we shared a Don Pedro dessert which was full of delicious whisky, ice cream, dulce de leche and almonds. As expected, everything was fantastically tasty again. Not to mention the pisco sour.
